A PD meter (positive displacement) is a type of flowmeter where a body is displaced by the medium to be measured. This flowmeter is the most accurate choice for viscous liquids. The interior consists of gears, a piston or lobes. A fixed volume is transmitted with each rotation. The number of rotations therefore determines the total volume and the rotation speed determines the flow rate.
Different PD meters for liquids:
- Oval gear flowmeters
- Oval flowmeters (without the teeth on the ovals)
- Gear flowmeters (round cogwheels)
- Bi-rotor meters
- Nutating disk flowmeters
- Ring piston meters
- Scummeters (sliding vane)
Different PD meters for gases:
- Calibration measurements
